WORKS OF HISTORICAL – ARTISTIC INTEREST IN OUR
LADY OF SORROW’S SANCTUAR, MARSALA

1) In The central apse: statue of Our Lady of Sorrow, partly in wood, partly In papier-mache’. The sculptor is unknown; XVIII° century.

2) Chapel on the left side: statue of the Virgin ( The Lightning Virgin ) in Painted stone. The sculptor is an unknows Sicilian; XVIII° century.

3) In the side altars there are three paintings in oils with inlay mixtilineal Frames attributes to Fra Felice da Sambuca, in the world Gioacchino Viscosi, a lay capuchin; XVIII° century. The paintings represent St. Filippo Benizi ( first altar on the left ); il Cuore di Gesù, SS. Francesco and Filippo Neri ( first altar on the right ); Tobia and Archangel Raphael ( second altar, on the left ).

4) In the second altar on the left side there are some paintings in oil Representing some episodes of Via Crucis; The author is unknown;XVIII° Century.

5) Organ and tribune with a grate in painted and gilt wood; Sicilian Handicraft, XIX° century.

6) Glorification of the Cross, a plastic decoration representing the triumph of puttos and cherubs; the Sicilian decorator of the Serpotta School is unknown.
